[outta my speakers is |beck / last of "alternative"]

i'm going to virginia on saturday and now that it's getting closer and closer i'm getting more and more procrastinatory. i'm doing everything but trying to figure out how to crunch the carbonic temperatures. everything besides the one more fluid inclusion run. everything besides entering the dataz. everything besides cleaning my house, doing the dishes, taking out the recycling so k. doesn't have to feed the bunny inside a condemned duplex.
the bunny woke me up a hundred and a half times last night and it was all so cute that i could hardly be mad at her, and i like that she joins me for a bit, but there were a lot of bits last night that she joined me for. bits that were at midnight, and one, and two, and three, and then pretty much perpetually after the alarm started going off (and then snoozed, and then snoozed, and then ignored). she probably just wanted raisins, but she gave little bunny nose kisses asking for them, so what do i care what she actually wanted.
i ate lunch with k. and got too full to go swimming before the pool closes, and i didn't shower this morning (eww) so i would make myself swim, but i imagine that being a little greasy is better than barfing in the pool. barfing is such a good word.
i spent a whole bunch of time just now reading entries in this little journal back to jr. year of college, and wondering what all the crypticness was in reference to. i've got some of the things that i talked so long ago about wanting, which is kind of totally awesome, but i'm living differently now than i ever thought i would be. and planning for things i never ever imagined. but i do have wood floors and blankets and christmas lights and paring knives and a refrigerator of produce (sometimes full of produce) and cutting boards and even a kitchen aid mixer. and the bunny lives out of her cage and we (the bunny and i) are on the lookout for a puppy (in 17 months) or a bunny pal for the bunny. and i'm preparing for some serious summer planting and some serious summer times that are more eventful that last summer's library times.
but first i have to do this work so i can go to virginia and do that la-icp-ms and the raman so i can come back and write a thesis that is good enough so peter lets me defend, and then defend, and then survive a closed door, and then, THEN, i will have a summer with a field trip and lab work and a road trip and a family vacation and curling up in the lap time. but i have to do this data stuff first.

i had a dream last night that i had this baby kitten that couldn't leave alone. she was orange and stripey and i was terribly worried about her the whole dream...

1. What were you doing 10 years ago?

i would have been, what, 13? that's the summer before 8th grade... probably not a whole lot. i think that was the summer of Sonja... my badass friend. as badass as you can be at 13.. i think she probably just lied alot, about her older sister and brother and making out with guys when she went to visit her dad in aberdeen, SD. maybe she wasn't lying - but i even then thought she might be. we lit alot of incense and cut our eyelashes and painted our nails blue. innocent 13 year old things that were desperately trying to be older and more badass.

2. What 5 things are on you to-do list for today?

*try not to get too bored
*go to the gym
*make something real for dinner - the can of baked beans last night wasn't quite right...
*find someone to do a PhD with so i have a stable job in this economy (suggested by my mom)
*read alot (finish?) "geek love"

3. List some snacks you enjoy.

*my refried beans and guacamole
*blueberry bagels and tofutti
*peaches/fruit o' the season
*granola bars (nature's valley pecan crunch, maple & brown sugar, or roasted almond)
*i think i might need a snack right now...

4. What would you do with a billion dollars?

probably pay off as much debt as i possibly could - for myself, for my parents, for my brother. buy a house in MN with a whole lot of land, i think. i think that's where i'd like a house with a whole lot of land. go a-travelling, probably, too. sequoia tree national park, new york, seattle, portland - just for the vegan foodz. buy some really nice cooking equipment. like a kitchen aid standing mixer, and some nice nice knives. and then just save a whole lot of it i guess, that wouldn't spend it all, no way.

5. List the places you have lived:

*st. paul, mn
*north oaks, mn
[ * golden valley, mn ]
[ * beloit, wi ]
*columbia, mo

6. List the jobs you have had:

*babysitter extraordinaire
*i actually coached itty bitty kid soccer once...
*blockbuster grunt (we had some specific title. what that was i have no idea.
*phone-a-thon creep (that was short-lived)
*reslife beeatch
*ramsey county library "student intern", i think is what they called me
*TA, beloit
*peter's rock cutting whore
*TA, mizzou
*RA, mizzou

i love tracy chapman, but it doesn't take very long to make me totally melancholy.

it's a three day weekend for me, at least i am deciding it is. and i'm scheduled to be unmulleted on monday morning. i plan on spending a good long time watching Rome this weekend and maybe making some bagels. and seitan. and reading. reading is good.

the lone ranger and tonto fistfight in heaven is a good book to read. you should. it changed my life.

and ps - i think i am less miserable more often these days, p-face. just so you know...
